The following picture is very graphic and I always get a twinge when I post things like this; but I end up considering that this is the world we live in and this woman is living it, so I think we can deal with looking at it. Her story is posted below and sadly it is one of countless stories that go on in our world. These photos tell us why we serve Christ, preach His message of peace, why we go to the mission field, why we work for justice and seek to overcome oppression wherever it is found. Lord Jesus, give us courage to do battle, because the enemy seems to rage on at every opportunity.

On August 26th 2009, Burma Army troops and soldiers of the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA) shot and severely wounded Ma Kin Kyi, 34, a woman from Htee Pa Doh village in Thaton District, west central Karen State. According to our local FBR relief team, the troops, from Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 214 and DKBA 333 Brigade surrounded the house in which Ma Kin Kyi was staying and fired into it, severely injuring her in the neck, jaw and mouth. According to the team, Ma Kin Kyi, who has a 2 month old baby, is not likely to survive this injury because she is unable to drink or eat. The team reported that the troops entered the village and suspected that the house in which Ma Kin Kyi was staying contained soldiers from the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA). The FBR team is now in the area, giving Ma Kin Kyi emergency medical treatment and trying to help her survive as best as they can and will continue to report on the situation.

Hi Fred:)

Many thanks for sharing this story. Burma is totally under the control of the military junta and no one has the power to do anything to stop the atrocities.

I do not understand why all the nations of the world are not coming together and impose economic and other sanctions. NATO should consider a blockade of Burma and if necessary bomb all the military establishments.

Some one has to take the lead. Who will bell the cat? This is where I love President Bush. I do not know what you think of Bush. But somehow I like him for what he did in Afghanistan and Iraq.

You have always been apolitical. But I appreciate the Bush initiatives.

Have a nice day Fred:)

This is a horrible picture of pure heartbreak and devastation. Awe how I wish I could personally with Christ be able to help these hurting people. I feel so helpless being so far away. If I were rich I would send ship loads of help and medical supplies. Just frustrating sitting here feeling helpless. We need to be on our knee's for the suffering nations.

Hi Fred,

Yes, when I was reading this i was thinking that we really just don't 'get it' how blessed we are sometimes! Those little things that annoy us so or 'petty - yet seemingly so unsurmountable'... are nothing in the face of this story.

We are blessed and because we know blessing it is our responsibility to share our blessings, especially on the mission field! Hmm... makes all my 'worries' look so infinitly small!

I also must say I am in agreeance with Joseph's comment regarding Afganistan and Iraq... but that is an entire book worth of comments for another day.

take care of you and your family! and may we be thankful for ALL we have,

Danielle :)

Hi Joseph, Mary and Danielle,
When I read accounts of atrocities like this, and countless others all over the world; I do it to remind me and all of us that we must never forget the horrid suffering that our fellow man is enduring. I cannot do much to change the world, but I can do something, and sometimes I think if we all do something it may be enough; at least enough for some. I do avoid political issues but not because I don't have opinions but I doubt I will ever know but a small part of the truth even if I read and listen to everything I can. I have had my mind changed on somethings I held firmly for years by one little piece of information, so I guess I feel so ill-equipped to truly give an educated opinion I just keep silent. But I can do something about it through prayer, giving, helping wherever I can. So these stories help me to never forget. God bless you all,
Fred
