Midnight misery, night terrors, these come to children when we are not
cautious of what we expose them to. The following piece says it well.

“Pathetic stories soften the heart; but legends of terror breed midnight misery;
Fairy fictions cram the mind with folly, and knowledge of evil tempts children
to imitate the evil:
Be not reluctant to curb imagination, nor be fearful that truths will depress it;
And for evil, he will learn it soon enough; don’t be the devil’s envoy.”
Fenelon, Painting by A.J. Frena

Hello Fred,

Very interesting post. Certainly we should not cramp children's mind with horror stories. We should always tell them good stories with morals in them. Surely there is too much horror in this world and children will learn them by themselves. The movies at least most of them are full of horrors and children automatically learn them whether we like it or not.

Best wishes,
Joseph

I couldn't agree with you more Joseph, children are exposed to horrors that should never be seen, truly at any age but certainly not when young.
God bless,
Fred

I haven't really thought about this, but I have to say off the cuff that I tend to agree. Someone has said that the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was to convince people that he doesn't exist. However, the next best thing is to deceive people into fearing him. Children are very impressionable. We should use their malleable years to expose them to light.
