Deal gently with us, ye who read!
Our largest hope is unfulfilled --
The promise still outruns the deed
The tower, but not the spire, we build.
Our whitest pearl we never find;
Our ripest fruit we never reach;
The flowering moments of the mind
Drop half their petals in our speech.
O.W.Holmes
I like this little poem; I think God gives us a vision in our souls
of who and what we can be, and most of us (maybe all) fail to realize that vision.
The last line grabbed me the most.

This is very true. We all for sure fall short of His glory for sure!!!
Thank you Lord God knows our true heart of hearts. He has His own ways to remind us humbleness. All of us on earth should be humble as non of us have a right to be anything different.
This poem is true to us all for sure!

Pastor Eric's post that said the world needs poets more than prophets really got me. When I read poetry, I am touched deeply in ways that are not like reading writing that is not poetic in nature. This poem is so sweet, so simple, and yet it speaks so powerfully. I love it. Thank you for sharing. :)

Hi Mary,
We do fall short and I like the way he put it- "The promise still outruns the deed..". I also agree with what you said about His ways to humble us, He is so creative in that area!
Love Fred

Hi Mel,
I'm glad you like it, and I too think in the condensing of many thoughts into a few lines is so powerful.
God bless,
Fred

Hi Joseph,
"Intriguing" is probably the best I could come up for this "work of art". You are a diplomat :)
God bless,
Fred
