I returned from a business trip in Orlando yesterday, good to be home! The weather there was wonderful, mid seventies all week. I could walk out at night in a T-shirt, which is quite a change from here. The day I left Oregon it snowed here.

I took today off and set up two book shelves that we bought at a second hand shop a while back, so I spent the day organizing it, which of course is great fun and in my small den it helped eliminate a lot of clutter. Anyway, this is part of my books where I get the quotes for my blog. I thought it might be of some interest so I included a picture.

Glad to be home and get back into my happy little routine.

What a beautiful sight, Fred! I'm so glad you're back, and that you had a good, safe trip with good weather, and a productive day today. You were missed.

I thought about this colorful photo last night, Fred... The wonders, the gems of truth, the fresh ways of expressing or thinking about ancient truths that are hidden within those many pages... I'm quite sure I could quite happily spend a year or two or more in your den pouring through those books. I've said it before, and I'll say it again--I do so hope there will be a library in Heaven. :)

Yes books are a story to the soul! Thanks for sharing the pictures with us.
I am interested in learning if you found anything exciting while you were gone? I love treasures especially antique ones, so would love to hear about a treasure you found. LOLOL Hey I admit I am an "antique road show" watcher on PBS...

Glad you are back and I missed you

Hi Mel,
Oh I too hope there will be a library in heaven. I have added a new book to my library which will have a prominent place because it embodies all the different thoughts, expressions, interpretations and ideals from all Christians. It is also not written by a "dead guy". The author, Brian McLaren, the title, A Generous Orthodoxy. Now I realize he has been around a while, and has written other books, but I tend to journey on the "old paths", but this book so resonated with me, and validated so many things I have come to believe, that it was a deep, cool drink of water from home for this thirsty soul. I will be posting quotes from it and I just can't wait. He is a guy near my age, saved in the sixties during the Jesus Movement, and has had many similar experiences as myself. I had an immediate kinship with his thoughts and humble style. Every few years the Lord brings along a new author to shake up my world, and if his other books speak to me as this one did, I will have to enlarge my library!
God bless,
Fred

Hi Mary,
I'm afraid on this trip I didn't have any time but to work, eat and sleep. Bummer because I too watch the Antique Roadshow and love to search for an overlooked treasure.
Love Fred

Eric, you make me chuckle and laugh. Your library is as big as mine and you haven't been collecting as long as me. Where will you put all these books?
In your mind and heart of course.
Love Dad

Fred, I'm sure you read Pastor Eric's post about that book...? I've already added it to my list of must-have's. But now I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and take out a loan to buy all the books on my list. Of course, when I get them, I'll be away from the computer for a while as God feeds my spirit through another method. Have you seen Walle yet? There's a part in there where the captain of the ship comes across a book and doesn't know what it is. Praise God we haven't gotten to that point... yet. :)

Well Fred I must say that there is that big book store of used books in Portland that is a block big. I bet you been there. I want to really badly! One day I will make myself drive there and go see all the goodies inside. Maybe take you to lunch :)

Hi Fred :)

I am not only amazed at the treasure trove you have but also jealous :)

I wish I could come there and borrow some books!

Have a nice day :)

Hi again Mel,
I'm proud to say I recommended this book to Eric, knowing his heart was tuned to the same string as the author, and also knowing he lives out the principles in this book. But I would recommend you put this at the top of the list, it is a life changer. You can pick up a used copy at Amazon for 4 or 5 bucks, and you will be changed, promise.

Hi Mary,
Yes there is a huge Powells book store here, when Eric comes to visit he says its to see me but I have a sneaking suspicion it is really to go to Powells.

Hi Joseph,
I admitt I'm a little proud of my collection but it has been 40 years in the making. I just donated about 400 books to Union Gospel Mission, a local Christian charity, books I bought in the fist ten years as a Christian. The sad part is if I had applied all that was in the fist ten books I purchased I wouldn't have needed any more.

Up until ten years ago or so you couldn't read on the net so you had to hunt on foot, which has an appeal that net shopping lacks, but charitable Christians are putting more and more books on line with free access. How great is that?
God bless,
Fred

Now don't freak out Eric, I didn't donate anything I know you would want. And the attic is still full.
