I heard on the radio the other day, a story about some men talking about the type of translation of the Bible that each liked. The first said he liked the King James Version; it was poetic, the highest English and easy to memorize. The second said he liked the New American Standard for its accuracy of translation to the original text. The third liked the NIV, and how it is read with such ease and captures the Biblical thought so well. Then an older man said, 'he liked his grandmothers translation'. The others asked which one it was. He simply said, 'her translation of it into life.'

What an inspiring thought... The translation of God's Word into life! One of my favorite books series is The Mark of the Lion series by Francine Rivers. Even though it's fiction, it's so steeped in biblical truth and Christian principles, that to this day it remains as on of the literary works that has most deeply impacted my life. It was fun and easy to read and gave so many different examples of what living the Bible looks like in so many situations.

I really appreciate your post about friendship, too. A friend of mine at work was sharing about the pain that has been caused in her family by a person who claims to be a Christian, is always sending Christian emails, and yet is so pushy, judgemental and agenda-driven that she causes the name and cause of Christ to be soured in the perceptions of everyone who knows her. How sad. May God have mercy on us for such behavior.

I pray that we'll all come to the realization that Christ did not suffer the turture of the cross in order to turn us into a bunch of Pharisees. And that we'll start being able to love all people unconditionally, with joy and freedom.

God bless you! :)

Great post Mel, another 'sermon in a minute'. But it is true in Christians, that often zeal overcomes wisdom. That's why I liked Cicero's quote about silence.
Thanks Mel.

Hello Fred!

I understand that there are several versions of the OLD TESTAMENT:

GREEK VERSION
LATIN VERSION
SAMARITAN HEBREW VERSION
SYRIAN VERSION

Best wishes!
