"Little is to be expected of that day, if it can be
called a day, to which we are not awakened by our Genius, but by some
mechanical nudgings of some servitor, are not awakened by our own newly
acquired force and aspirations from within to a higher life than we fell asleep
from." Thoreau.
I preached on this at the correction center, I abridged it a little and switched out the word "Genius," and in its place I said, "our plans, visions, goals which if at any time in our lives, when in jail, we can't afford to roll out of bed sleepy eyed, sliding into our shoes and walking in a cloud but rather: now is the time to envision the task before us. Whether it be restoration of relationships, job interviews, a deeper walk with God, whatever the most pressing need is we must rise with these things on our mind and hearts in greater measure than when we went to sleep.
