"It may be particularly observed, of women, that they are for the most part good or bad, as they fall among those who practise vice or virtue; and that neither education nor reason gives them much security against the influence of example. Whether it be, that they have less courage to stand against opposition, or that their desire of admiration makes them sacrifice their principles to the poor pleasure of worthless praise, it is certain, whatever be the cause, that female goodness seldom keeps its ground against laughter, flattery, or fashion."
Okay now, it's one man's opinion, Johnson's; don't shoot the messenger :) But..... if the shoe fits..

It is a good post and it contains much truth. Tell us honestly, tell me honestly, was there a certain woman that you were thinking of when you posted it? And what was it about her, in practical, everyday terms, that caused you to see a need for the truth in this post? :)

Every man and woman needs praise and appreciation from time to time to keep them going. Perhaps women need it more and for this purpose they may be prepared to sacrifice their ideals.

We had some great women in our times such as Golda Meir, Margaret Thatcher ( Iron Woman ), Indira Gandhi ( it was said that she was the only man in Parliament ), Benazir Bhutto etc. who stood their grounds, upheld their ideals and were not ready to fall for any amount of praise, appreciation etc.

Have a good day!

Mel, no I didn't have anyone in mind, and really, I don't think this is an exclusive fault of females. Men fall prey to the same thing. But I am rearing two granddaughters and I have seven granddaughters altogether, and it is and has been my good pleasure to influence them to stand strong in God and to educate them as much as possible about what to look for in a man, and what not to do. So this is just another tidbit I will pass on to them.

I agree with you Joseph that we all need some praise and appreciation as well. In fact, I think if parents and grandparents give their children lots of love and appreciation, maybe they will not fall so quickly or have as great a need for it until the right person comes along. Hope so.

Joseph, would you mind if I posted on my blog one of your posts? In particular the one about the two men using the magnets.
